THE STORY
OF THE BENT CROSS: In 1969, a terrible hurricane called "Camille", pounded the
Gulf Coast of Louisiana and Mississippi. Twenty-foot tidal waves and massive
property damage resulted, leaving many of the Coast's historic homes and
buildings in a wake of destruction. The original building housing Christ
Episcopal Church was among the many casualties of this great storm. Surviving
the tragedy, was the top of the congregation's Processional Crucifix.
The beautiful and cherished artifact sustained damage, but it remained
as testimony to God having spared the spirit of the church. In the aftermath,
the cross was made into a cover for the church's baptismal fount. Shown
below are details of the damaged Cross, and the Baptismal fount on which
it now rests. |
