Our Story
On October 21, 2007, First UMC, an historically white congregation and Grace UMC, an historically black congregation merged. It was two years after the levees had broken. The sixty of us then, made a decision to let go and let God. We believed that God would form us and others into a new body—First Grace. We believed that God would honor our embrace of the Gospel message to show “no partiality,” and continuously create a space where the city can worship.
Every week we encounter the blessing and the challenge of our belief in this Gospel proclamation. Boldly, we believe that the love revealed in Christ Jesus is the most powerful change agent the world has known. We keep our eyes on the prize prophetically embracing a justice of loving acceptance as our task; and redemption, healing, deep joy and prophetic community as our reward.
We are a people committed to living with one another, not just near each other, and we strive to create a worship space and community where the least among us are equal among us. We invite you to join us on this journey.

Wednesday Supper at 6pm and Bible study at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.
Choir Practice
Adults practice each Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary
Tween/Youth practice each Friday at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall
Two pipe organs were supplied to First Methodist Church in New Orleans according to the OUSCDB database. Both instruments were by the Hinners Company. One instrument bore Opus number 720. Records indicate that it was located in the church. Another Hinners instrument of unknown Opus was located in the chapel. It is believed that these organs were located in a previous church and/or location of this congregation. The present church on Canal and Jefferson Davis Parkway was built in the second half of the 20th Century. Those organs would therefore not have been in this building. Shortly after the church was completed, an Allen electronic organ was installed in the sanctuary.
We have no further information on the present instrument in use at this church, or the current status following Hurricane Katrina.
